Loch Leven Castle – A great place to access the reserve!

Image

Loch Leven Castle is a special place to visit on the reserve.  There is a pleasant boat trip across the loch,  you’ll learn about the castle’s long history and  it’s also a great place for seeing wildlife.

If you are visiting the island you can see great crested grebes close offshore, tufted ducks with their broods from the boat and hear the strange calls from the grey herons that nest in the trees. Plenty of birdsong can also be heard with song thrush, blackbird and chaffinch joining the usual tits.

The boat runs from The Pier in Kinross.  You can find out more about visiting on Historic Scotland’s website.
